Amos is an amazing book. God values Justice and Equality. One thing that I love about Amos is that He shows that while God may LOVE you (us) He stills JUDGES and DISCIPLINES His children.
4 Key Ideas:
1. God holds the nations accountable for their social policy.
2. Israel will not escape the judgment of the day of the LORD.
3. True WORSHIP spawns SOCIAL JUSTICE.
4. God will RESTORE a remnant of Israel.
This morning Amos 2:8 caught my attention. "GARMENTS" When taken as SECURITY for loans, a man's cloak was to be returned at night because the POOR needed it for a covering (Exodus 22:25-27). A widow's cloak could not be taken at all. The picture is of RUTHLESS FORECLOSURE because of debts. Wine taken as fines was drunk to a heathen god (not God.)
